Internationality

In the English Department, all lecturers have significant international experience, be it through international degrees, cross-cultural exchanges, or collaboration on a global scale. The details are elaborated below:

International Degrees

One of the lecturers in the English Department holds an international degree from Monash University, Australia, with a Master of Applied Linguistics, focusing on Intercultural Communication. In her studies, she examined how language and culture intersect and influence each other, which displays the practical applications of language in real-life situations. During her time in Australia, she was actively involved in Australia-Indonesia events, such as teaching Bahasa Indonesia to Australians and participating in conferences and workshops. Returning to Indonesia, she brought her international experience to her students. She continued her commitment to cross-cultural understanding by joining the Australia–Indonesia Youth Association, where she served as Education Officer in 2019, Communication Officer in 2020, and Vice President in 2021.

International Conference Participation

All English Department lecturers are proactively engaged in international conferences, where they can disseminate their research, engage in international networking, gain constructive feedback on a global scale, and have the opportunity to have international publications. The conferences where the lecturers have attended are:

International Virtual Dialogue

One of the lecturers in the English Department is an active member of the World Collaborative Community, a prestigious international platform to promote knowledge exchange globally. Her principal tasks lie in coordinating webinars or international virtual talks, being a moderator of global events, and being a keynote speaker. For instance, she transferred her knowledge to a Formal Conversation About the Indonesian Language and Culture Event.  She provided valuable insights into the Indonesian language and culture, which could bring a comprehensive perspective to our students.

Simultaneous  Interpreter and Translator at the International Labour Organisation (ILO)

One of the lecturers in the English Department is an active member of the International Labor Organization as a simultaneous interpreter. He is crucial in bridging language barriers at international events to ensure all communication runs effectively. In addition, he also serves as a document translator, translating critical documents, reports, and materials from diverse linguistics backgrounds.

Active Participation in International Association

Some English Department lecturers actively participate in the Australia – Indonesia Youth Association (AIYA) – Jawa Barat Chapter, where they can promote cross-cultural understanding and educational exchange between the two countries. Some of our lecturers have also served as speakers at one of AIYA events called “How to Build Social Skills: Australian and Indonesian Perspectives”. In this event, our lecturers shared their insights and expertise on social skills development based on Australian and Indonesian viewpoints.  In addition, some lecturers also served as language facilitators in AIYA events called “Language Exchange”, where Indonesians could learn Australian English and Australians could learn Bahasa Indonesia from the native speaker of each language.
