The English Literature Study Program of UNIKOM successfully elevated its international academic atmosphere by organizing an exclusive Guest Lecture on Friday, June 19, 2026. This prestigious event featured a distinguished linguistic scholar, Assoc. Prof. Florian Andrei Vlad from the Faculty of Letters, Ovidius University, Constanta, Romania. The lecture was attended by 50 enthusiastic students from the department, all eager to delve into advanced linguistic study.
During the session, Prof. Florian specifically explored the intricacies of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), focusing closely on the pivotal role of language within the mass media landscape. He emphasized a core linguistic premise: language is inherently non-neutral. Media outlets hold specific underlying values, strategically structuring and manipulating language to align with particular ideologies and global power dynamics.
The 50 student participants were actively engaged in practical demonstrations, analyzing how media texts shape public perception through calculated word choices. The Head of the English Literature Study Program noted that hosting global scholars like Prof. Florian is vital for expanding students’ theoretical horizons and strengthening the department’s international academic network. Through this insightful guest lecture, students are expected to not only master CDA methodologies academically but also evolve into more critical, analytical, and discerning media consumers in today’s digital information era.
